Today we will learn five things that you can do to start generating more brand deals without waiting for them to land in your inbox. A simple update you can make to your social accounts that will take less Than five minutes but will reap dividends, And about the private groups that share intel on brand deals and contacts for upcoming paid campaigns. Before we get started,
Tip #1
So Tip #1 is that you need to audit your social media handles to optimize for brand eyeballs. So there are three key elements that you should focus on. So the first is that you need to plaster your email address everywhere. I cannot tell you how many times I've found an Influencer that was perfect for a campaign I was recruiting for, but I couldn't for the life of me find a way to contact them. So have your email in every single YouTube description box, in your IG bio, just everywhere! It will literally take you less than five minutes to do. Do not make brands dig! Second, have a clear content focus and cadence. So if you make skincare tutorials every Monday when a brand lands on your page, will they know that you make skincare tutorials every Monday? Do you actually say that anywhere in your YouTube channel art or your IG bio? Make it clear! And third, advertise that you're open to brand partnerships. Whether that means putting links to your Media Kit in an easy-to-find place or having a "Partner with Me" section on your blog, Or on your "About" section on YouTube where you say you make Integrations or Dedicated videos, or you do IG takeovers. Don't be afraid to let brands know the different ways that they can work with you.
Tip #2
Tip #2 is that you need to sign up for every influencer platform that you come across. I know that there is a certain amount of platform fatigue out there from influencers. I know it's annoying to have to create new accounts on every new influencer platform that pops up, but you truly never know where your next deal will come from. So, what is the harm in signing up and just forgetting about it until they contact you for a deal, right? I'm not making this up: a few years ago, my wife April and I signed up for a new platform that emailed us, and we just kind of forgot about it. They contacted us like six months later with a $30,000 deal, right? So it's worth your while!
Tip #3
So Tip #3 is that you need to start engaging with other creators who are already working with the brands you want to. I hear from so many creators who say, "Oh, I see all these other influencers working with these big brands. How can I get those deals?" Right, but you really need to network, start engaging in their comments sections, become a known face in their communities. Get friendly with them, right? So when you get a deal, message your other creator friends and offer to make an introduction to the brand, right? Don't just ask for favors right off the bat! Provide value first, And then when you see them working with your dream brands, you've already put in the work, and that's when you can ask for an intro. It's seriously that simple. And plus, brands will often ask creators if they have other friends who might be a good fit for a campaign. So you just being visible is critical.
Tip #4
Tip #4 is to search hashtags like #ad and #sponsored on platforms like Instagram to see which brands are paying creators, right? Let me be the first to tell you that it takes a ton of work to try to convince and educate brands who have never worked with creators before, so why not just identify the brands who already get it, right? Brands who already see the value in what creators bring to the table. You can message the brand's handle and just ask for their Influencer Marketing Manager's contact info. Don't just wait for them to come to you.
Tip #5
And Tip #5 is to join private groups like on Facebook that share brand deal intel. I actually have a group like this on Facebook. If you're interested in joining, click the link HERE. And also, a lot of creators have group text threads with other friends who are creators, and they share contact info.
The one thing I've never really understood is why some creators are super secretive about their brand contacts, right? Brands are on track to spend $15 billion on influencer marketing by 2022 - there is enough money to go around. Rising tides float all boats.
